Imagine you like building factories, and you happen to live in Canada - bit of a rare mix but stay with me. The Canada-US trade war is bubbling. You say to yourself: “fuck em - we’ve got all the raw materials that Europe and China are desperate for - how big a problem is this really…”
Turns out it’s a yuge problem.
Canada needs no fewer than ~15 significant refineries/factories. Call it $16bn over a decade. And it needs to be said that this is a better nation building project than it is a commercial effort… Canada would need local-first policies / import tariffs on competing established refineries. And these refineries/factories will probably still lose money for a while. It would be our version of Chinese solar factories.
Caveat: I wasn’t down for describing each refinery in detail - so there is a bit of slop on the site, apologies - but the thrust remains the same.
