My First Little Upset

· From the 2010–2013 blog

Ok, So I'm a few weeks in now, and I've had my first little upset. Last night I was on the phone with my wonderful, and typically supportive, mother talking about how great everything was and all my little successes so far. and it was going great, she was being kick-ass. but then it turned into a whole lot of very worried scrutinizing - albeit a lot of it was answers that I didn't have, but it was depressing. its threw me off my trott a little bit. so I'm sitting up right now, mulling things over, and hoping that hacking up this post makes me feel better. First things first, a little Q & A:

  • Is it crazy: yes, a little. it could result in a very bad financial situation for the next many years of my life.
  • Whats the worst that happens: I run out of money, get a real job, maybe default on a loan.
  • What are the alternatives: quit and get a new job, suck it up and become souless, never take a risk ever
  • Reasons not to do it: security, boredom and stuff
  • Reasons to do it: I'm good, really good, and I'm gonna knock it out of the park. and failing that, its my dream and how do I ever justify not living the one life i get

Ok. I win. good. Now, what can I do to win her over? not that long ago I would have picked a pretty big fight over this. I would have made a lot of noise and forced her hand, but it doesn't work like that anymore. no, she needs to want to be there in my corner. and i need her help & support (just like I need everyone elses, if this is gonna fly). some things I can do:

  • Resolve the outstanding banking issue
  • Talk about business loans
  • Talk about business grants
  • Shake more hands & kiss more babies (& find more money)
  • Start formalizing the business plans

The thing is, I don't think I could be more in this right now, but I need all the help I can get, and the clock really is ticking on that. so rather than get kicked to the ground, I'm gonna take this as just another sign that I need to get the pieces together so that I can make more noise. This weeks goals:

  • Letter of resignation
  • Talk to the bank
  • Solid market & research write-ups for the top 3

Fuck, this is great. I'm excited again.
