Split Personality

· From the 2010–2013 blog

So I have realized I have a split personality that doesn't transition well between the splits. I also might know why marketing and business development guys are so strange - but thats a story for another time. I can do a pretty great job at shaking hands and kissing babies when I need to, and I'm a pretty great hacker (albeit not the kind of visionary or architect that Steve is - fuck he is good!) but I cant be both at the same time, and I almost always lose any part of the day I spend trying to change hats. No, maybe I should clarify - I can send bizdev email in hacker mode, and write code in bizdev mode - but neither turns out very well and I'm really just better off batching the days up and hacking when the hacking is good, and emailing when I don't sound too much like a code zombie. That being said - I don't know if this is a problem or just something I need to take note of and build on. I think it might be good to know this. I can switch modes on nice divides this way - and when I run into a funny transition day rather than cause a whole bunch of problems I just have to be aware and go read a book or something. The realization came out of sending a big block of business email today and then hitting a brick wall with the transition back to code land. But otherwise everything is going very well and Steve and I are making great progress together.
