Where is the Line?
· From the 2010–2013 blog
You know that subtle line. the one we all tango with in this goofy software dev world. its the line that i guess is a lot more like a tight rope. you risk falling to the side of too much architecture and no product, or the the side of no toes because you shot them all off. I'm definitely more of a doer than a planner, and I'm struggling with this whole thing. I cant quite feel out when to support the architecturally sponginess, and when to kick its ass into doing some work. The best metric I can figure is its not all bad right now as long as every discussion and drawing is followed by a piece of code within a few days. any more than that and it was just heady rambling, any less and the discussion was a waste of time (someone had already made up their mind). I know its terrible, but I feel responsible for keeping the guys focused and doing - after all they still have day jobs ;). As for the stuff I'm working on, I'm trying to do lots towards getting a skeleton. I have some architectural tenants I'm trying to keep in mind, but nothing too heady yet. and so far its working for me. I'll let you know when it all falls off the wire.
